Guideline on Split Heat Pump systems

SKILLSAFE EU has published its second guideline on the safe handling of heat pumps using A3 refrigerants, this time focusing on split heat pump systems in residential applications.

As the use of non-fluorinated refrigerants grows across Europe, professionals need the right knowledge and procedures to work safely with refrigerants with higher flammability, such as R290 (propane). The new guideline provides practical information for manufacturers, installers, plumbers and other professionals involved throughout the lifecycle of split heat pumps, from transport and installation to maintenance, repair and end-of-life.

The guideline covers air-to-air and air-to-water split heat pumps and addresses key aspects including qualification and certification requirements, installation sites, on-site handling, commissioning, maintenance and repair, labelling and documentation, transport and storage, and on-site risk assessment.
